What stem cell therapy aims to do in RP

In RP, the rod and cone photoreceptors and the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) that feeds them slowly degenerate. Stem cell approaches try to support the cells that remain by releasing growth factors, calming inflammation in the retina, and, in some laboratory research, replacing damaged cells.
