A teenager in Lahore or Faisalabad who can no longer read the whiteboard, despite new glasses, may have an inherited macular condition such as Stargardt disease. The timing is hard, often just before board exams. This page explains the condition for students and parents and describes where stem cell research stands.

Stargardt disease damages the macula, the small area used for reading and fine detail. Side vision usually stays, so students can still move around independently, but text becomes blurred or patchy.
Shows the structure of the macula.
Imaging that shows the pattern of deposits and damage in the retina.
Checks the function of the wider retina.
Looks for the gene linked to Stargardt disease, where possible.
Researchers are studying gene therapy and cell therapy, including cells grown from stem cells. These approaches remain experimental. We offer assessment after examination only and cannot guarantee improvement.
Send earlier reports and scans on WhatsApp at +91-9760013103. Siblings can be examined too, because the condition is inherited. India has restricted visas for Pakistani nationals since April 2025, so please confirm the current rules before planning travel.
